In January 2026, BTL-COP was presented at the 1st National Congress on Police Mediation, Security Policies and Coexistence, held in Teruel, Spain. The two-day professional and scientific forum brought together around 165 participants from Spain and other countries, including law enforcement authorities, academics, judges, magistrates, and certified mediators.
A representative of the Valencia Police Authority, a partner in the BTL-COP consortium, presented the project and its broader contribution to European research and innovation on trust-based policing. The congress focused on the present and future of police mediation, highlighting dialogue, prevention, and coexistence as key pillars of public security.
As part of the programme, the Valencia representative took part in a round table on Community Policing, Hate Crimes, and Police Best Practices, contributing to discussions on how mediation and proximity policing can strengthen trust between communities and law enforcement.
Speakers and participants from police forces, municipalities, judicial institutions, and international organisations shared experiences and good practices, reinforcing the role of mediation as a human-centred approach to security and social cohesion.
Participation in events such as this congress supports BTL-COP’s mission to build trust between communities and police, promote innovative leadership, and contribute to safer, more resilient societies across Europe.
