TING Model (Trust in Neighbourhood Groups)

Overview

The TING Model (Trust in Neighbourhood Groups) is a structured approach to strengthening long-term, trust-based cooperation between police, communities, and local stakeholders.

Developed within BTL-COP, the model supports meaningful dialogue and shared problem-solving at neighbourhood level, particularly in contexts affected by poverty-driven and aporophobia-related crime. It recognises that trust is built through sustained engagement, mutual understanding, and locally grounded collaboration.

What the TING Model supports

  • Structured dialogue between police, young people, and community actors
  • Co-creation of locally relevant solutions to safety challenges
  • Shared understanding of risks, vulnerabilities, and community needs
  • Sustainable engagement beyond one-off consultations

How it is used

The TING Model is applied and refined through pilot activities across Europe, adapting to different social and institutional contexts. Insights from these applications contribute to practical guidance, training, and policy-relevant recommendations.
